Microorganisms are abundant, present everywhere with enormous diversity. They are scientifically most interesting with high potentials to contribute towards several societal challenges. The focus areas in this specific workshop are: Microbial diversity and evolution, N2-fixation and sustainable agriculture, Soil microbial indicators, Waste- and polluted-water treatment and bioremediation, and Microorganisms for energy production. The overall aim is to consolidate the contacts already established between South African and Swedish scientists in the above focus areas into fruitful scientific collaborations which will include students at all levels in the participating universities.
